Cuttl vs Contentsquare (formerly Hotjar)

Both show where visitors get stuck with heatmaps and session replay. Cuttl also runs your A/B tests from the same Cuttl Tag and plan. Contentsquare puts A/B testing on its custom-priced Pro and Enterprise plans, and sells fuller surveys separately.

Questions

Questions

Is Cuttl a Hotjar alternative?

Yes. Cuttl covers what most teams used Hotjar for (heatmaps, session recordings, feedback surveys and funnels) and adds A/B, split URL and multivariate testing on the same plan. See seven Hotjar alternatives compared.

Is Hotjar part of Contentsquare now?

Yes. Contentsquare bought Hotjar in 2021 and moved Hotjar’s tools into its own platform. New Hotjar accounts can’t be created.

Does Contentsquare include A/B testing?

Not on its Free or Growth plans. It’s an add-on on Contentsquare’s Pro plan and included on Enterprise, both custom-priced for 1 million or more sessions a month. Growth can connect to outside testing tools such as Optimizely, AB Tasty and Kameleoon. In Cuttl, A/B and split URL tests are on every plan, including Free.

How much does Contentsquare cost?

Contentsquare’s free plan covers up to 200,000 sessions a month. Growth is priced by monthly sessions: $49 a month for 7,000 ($39 billed yearly), $339 for 75,000 and $739 for 200,000. Growth doesn’t include A/B testing or form analysis. Pro and Enterprise are priced on request, and Voice of Customer surveys (from $79 a month) and Product Analytics are separate. Cuttl has a free plan, then Pro and Max, priced by monthly unique visitors, with heatmaps, recordings and A/B tests on the same plan.

How is Cuttl priced?

Cuttl is free up to 5,000 unique visitors a month. Pro and Max are priced by monthly unique visitors, with 5 sites on Pro and unlimited sites on Max. See the pricing page for what each plan includes.

Does Cuttl have a free plan?

Yes. The free plan covers one site and up to 5,000 unique visitors a month, with heatmaps, session recordings and A/B tests.

Can I move my Hotjar data to Cuttl?

Recordings and heatmaps can’t be transferred between tools, because each tool records sessions in its own format. Run both tools side by side for a week or two, and export anything you need from the old account before you close it.

See where visitors get stuck, then test the fix.

Add the Cuttl Tag to your site, turn on Journey Insights, and your first sessions show up in Cuttl.
