Any other website
Paste the Cuttl Tag from Cuttl’s Install tab inside <head> on every page, in the shared header or layout template. Then turn on Journey Insights or Web Experiments in Cuttl, because a new workspace starts with both off. Single-page apps need no extra code, because Cuttl counts each route change as a page view.
Using an AI coding agent?
Point it at cuttl.io/agents.md. That page tells agents how to add the Cuttl Tag, check that data arrives and connect Cuttl’s MCP server, asking you first at each step.
Install questions
Where do I find my Cuttl Tag?
In Cuttl, open your site and go to the Install tab. Each site has its own Cuttl Tag, so copy it from there.
Does Cuttl slow my site down?
No. The Cuttl Tag is under 1.7 KB and loads the rest in the background, so it never blocks the page. The session recorder only loads for sessions that are recorded.
Can I use Google Tag Manager?
Yes. A/B tests may briefly show the original page first, though, so for tests the Cuttl Tag works best in the page’s head.
Does it work on single-page apps?
Yes. Route changes in React, Vue, Next.js and similar apps count as page views, with no extra code.
How do I know it’s working?
Turn on Journey Insights or Web Experiments first, because a new workspace starts with both off. Then open a page of your live site and check the Install tab in Cuttl. It shows when data last arrived.
Can I leave out my own sessions?
Yes. Open any page of your site once with ?cuttl_ignore=1 at the end of the address, and that browser is no longer tracked.
